Mocksville show

Hello yesterday was a good day . The weather was mild for Jan. The drive was foggy but we made the show in plenty of time . Joni , Kristen, and Deidre was already at the show. We had a good turn out for the Woolys. That was the biggest class . that is the second time straight that the top entries were in the Woolys. There was also other breeders there Jody , Kristla , and Tom .Judy and Brandy all I can remember right now . I had bob in show A and /bris The doe was Libby Bell,A black and white doe that came out of Erb lillybell and PP's Piglet. I have a lot of off spring from these two and I was really happy when the younger broken place over her in the second show because I want ever gereration to be as good or better than the last . Erb's Lilly bell is with me for life tho.She is a beautiful doe that has produced a lot of babies for me with some being just wonderful. Another surprise for me was when my shaded jr buck place 1st in his class as he was molting but he has the pose that is natural and I am sure he is going to be one of my best show bucks. I don't know why but I don't usually show bucks. I bred 3 does the 20 of jan . I haven't been breeding for winter babies I am afraid it is too cold for newborns. I usually bring them in to the basement but they just don't like to be moved. I was really glad to see everone at the show it is like having family gathern.Take care Tresia

Hi I have booked me a room for 2 nights in Greensboro for the national show and the nc state conv. I hope everthing works out that I get to go. I don't have but 4 jr. I'm not sure if I will want to show all of them. I don't know why I didn't breed more does so I would have jrs. I guess it is too late now. It seems I have them everwhere than I don't have anything. The GAA show sat was great at the Tractor supply in Hickory. Helen Mckie spent the night and I really injoyed the bunny talk. fri was my birthday and I got a lot of happy birthdays. I felt like I had a real bunny friend family.I got a bob in show a and Joni got a bos in show b Helen mckie got the bob & Bos.

Hi

I have been thinking on how can I improve my heard and I have been takeing a good look as I feed. I wonder about the circle thing. Is it suppost to be a half circle or a quarter circle body. I thought about the high head set of the ND and I looked at my standard which is from 2004. but the ND wasn't posed on it toes but looks more relax pose. I looked at my woolys and was thinking which ones had the most eye appeal and I realized the ones that you just look at and it looks well balance was the ones that had won for me. Now the bigger does I have been keeping should I keep them. They didn't show well and will have some nice babies but then there will be a lot of ugly one also. The cute little show ones usually aren't the best breeders. Well , I'm not sure which ones will leave for sure this spring but I have several old timers that will get a last chance. I have one 3 year old that I have only got one baby out of but she was an awsome doe. I showed her and let her set whild I worked with something else than when I did breed her she didn't catch. I was checking my records and I bred her 4 times this pass year and used 3 different bucks . She is nice but I am giving her one more chance to produce something for me. One doe is 5 yr old. I never kept anything out of her . The last 2 times I bred her she didn't catch. She may end up being a pet and staying here she has an awsome personality. they are a few more that I just couldn't give up on. But I would like to improve my rabbits and I am going to take a closer look and see what I can do to improve them. I guess the Question I have been asking myself is do I want my Woolys looking like a wooled ND standing on it toes. That is what seems to win on the show table . I like this look very much. But I had the same question when I first got into woolys when the fuzzy lop was being bred into woolys. I wanted the big head but didn't want to breed another breed in. I didn't do it and I am glad I didn't so I will probable just breed the best I have into each other. If I do breed a wool dwarf it would be to a few does to see how it worked.

It is getting to the freezing weather and I always have to deal with frozen bottle, crocks, I Have extra cups I use if the weather is freezing more than one day. I'm always looking when I go to yard sales for rabbit dishes. I'm not breeding for winter babies..I have a lot of rabbits now but not many jr.I'm not looking to sell many rabbits. I would reather have a few good one. Take care Tresia

no babies

Hi I haven't bred for winter babies. My younges is about 5 weeks old. I bred two. ONe didn't catch and the other I brought in and she had one baby and it died. so tomorrow back to the rabbitry she goes. I think she was upset because I took her out of the rabbitry. she was carrying hay and jumping in the nest box and I brought her in the basement and she didn't eat much and humped up . I think she would have done better to have left her alone. I get really down on raising rabbits in the winter. It is hard to find time to babysit and take care of rabbits. It would be best for me if I just gave them up but It breaks my heart ever time I go to the rabbitry and think of not haveing my rabbits so I guess as long as I can get it done I will keep it up.I'm not going to the show this weekend hopeful I can get back to the heart of things and be ready for a couple of shows in jan. have a happy Christmas Tresia

2 fires

Hi

I torched cages today and the weather must have beenrightbecause I first caught a rag on fire that was laying on top of a cage and I was about five feet below it when I looked and saw it and I put it out and went back to torching there is a plastic patition between the next cage and I saw I had caught the a handful of hay on fire rabbit still in cage. I put down the torch and got out my rabbit whick hadn't moved thank goodness. So all was well. I read Joni lyle blog and I total agree with her on people getting into rabbit to start with. I want rewrite it look on her web site. I will tell anyone the good traits and the downfall of my rabbits. I don't care how much a person looks at it but it is an insult to have some one want another breeder to look at my rabbit with out giveing me the oppertunity to tell them about the rabbit. Especially when I have been breeding for as long and won as much as the person they are wanting to look at the rabbit.. I know I had a girl want me to look at a rabbit one time that didn't belong to me and she didn't buy the rabbit but I didn't tell the girl any faults but I am not going to do that again. The experienced breeder can tell you if thir rabbit develope late or what. They are a lot of things the breeder can tell you about their ling. Another breeder may not know anything about how your rabbits develope. Any way if some one that own a rabbit wants me to look at it I will but if they are planning to buy from another person ask them and look at it your self. I want look at it.. I enjoyed the show sat at Taylorville . I enjoy the fellowship as well as the BOS win. I hope to get some new pic up soon. take care and may your nest box be full. Tresia

P

Hi

I have several but welcome a newcomer today. It was a broken out of a doe I let Helen have a couple of years ago and she bred her back to a buck off brian Caudill's lines. she had 2 but I think the other one is a peanut. One is a loner and the other has 2 not big litters but that is ok with me. I spent the day working in the rabbitry yesterday.
NC Mountain State Fair show

Hi

It was a pretty day sat. The weather was just about right. The show went smooth. We had a new woman showing Woolys. That was great. Helen Mckie won Bob and Bos and the wool class in show a and I won Bob & Bos in show b also won the colored wool class. The day went perfect till I got home and realize I had left a carrier of rabbits at the show. I called the office at the fair and they picked up my rabbits and helt them till I got back up there to get them. They even watered them for me. Since I had empted their cup to come home. Ever thing went smooth they were waiting for me when I got there. My husband drove this time I was too tired to drive. The awsome thing was the show report was in the mail box today. Boy wasn't that fast. I have been looking to see who is going to Greensboro. this weekend. I have several I would like to take but not sure which one is the best shot . I breed 3 or 4 does in aug but I don't think any of them took . owell I still have several I need to move. I have the rabbitry full again. Take care Tresia

snake

I have been working in my rabbitry the last couple of days. I have been tatooing rabbits. I had some a year old that didn't have a tatoo. I hate that job. Sat while I was working my husband came up and sit down in a iron bench I have just outside of the rabbitry the open end. and I was working on the last line next to the wall and a snake came in pretty fast. I yelled and my husband killed the snake. It was a husband right on time. I have been weary ever since. I have never had a snake in the rabbitry that is the second one I have seen in the past 7 years and I have a trio of chickens colse to it . I think he had been getting the eggs part of the time anyway the chicken are going somewhere else. I think one of my rabbits hurt it leg running around when the snake killing was going on but she seem a lot better today. She wasn't sitting up on it yesterday she was sitting side ways. One of my best brood does. I think she will be ok tho. I have several rabbits for sale . Most are in the ugly stage with all the molt going on. I like showing rabbits but there are a lot of flustrations that go with it. It can be a hastle just to get to a show sometimes . Then they loose your show reports or they don't get there. It is months before it is updated. I know some of the shows on the list that aren't in has been sent. now they are in the newsletter and when has that thing ever been on time. I know a lot of these jobs are volenteer but if you volenteer do the job.So you know my gripes now. I do commend the people that do a great job like Judy Bustle and a lot of other people. I hear a lot of people talk about getting out of rabbit . There has been a turnover in the 7 years that I have been showing. I enjoy showing with the group that are usually at the shows because there are some that remind me of my son's competive sprit. When he played he played to win. I play to have a good time and enjoy my rabbits. It is great when I win but I stil want to show when I loose. It gives me something to work on. I think of what I can do to improve my rabbits. I guess it is time for me to go to bed. take care Tresia

Hi Everone

I had a tort Buck to die for no apparent reason. It was the health looking one in the litter. I don't know if it was the heat or what but I have babies and all ages in my rabbitry luck i have sold 6 in the last week. I still have several that need to be rehomed. The one that died was about 8 weeks old and was still with two other litter mates. I have been pretty lucky with live litters beside the peanuts and a dead one here and there I haven't lost any. I brought one doe in to kindle and two days later I put her back out she had a tort and a broken not much body color. The other broken doe I breed a lot and have nice babies had 5, some nice marked broken. I hope they aren't all bucks. It seems like I can't get does. I had like three litters with just bucks in a row. I don't have anythink bred now. I am waiting for a cooler day. I have been working the last two days in the rabbitry with the torch. all that fur from these molting rabbits have covered my cages. I have a large fan high and one standing fan both industrial type. I brushed young one today . I am looking forward to my next show which will be Taylorville. Kristen just keep doing what you have been doing everthing will work out. That what Deidre told me one time. I was just down and I told her I don't know what I am doing wrong I try to do everthing I know to have good rabbits and that what she told me and It worked out. It has been a hard year for the rabbits with all this heat and Cold winter. Even People seem to be short temper. Well good luck everone Tresia
